$100 Payday Loan in Canada: $14 Fee, Who Writes $100, and the Routes That Beat It

A $100 payday loan costs $14 in every province that licenses payday lending, and the $114 comes out of your next paycheque in one debit. Not every lender writes $100: the form on this page starts at $300, and this page says so before you apply.

The short answer

  • Cost: a $100 payday loan costs $14 and you repay $114. The fee is the same for 7 days or 62; on a 14-day term it works out to 365% APR.
  • Who writes it: storefront lenders and some online lenders write $100; the form on this page starts at $300, and the lender’s written offer states the exact amount before you sign.
  • When it pays: only when the bill it prevents would cost more than $14 and cannot wait until payday.
  • Cheaper first: an employer pay advance costs $0, and an arranged overdraft about $0.81 for two weeks on $100 plus any monthly fee.

Apply for a payday loan: about 2 minutes, decided on income

This is the same form as our apply page: the amount, your pay dates and a 60-second read-only bank check, then a written offer from a licensed lender showing the cost in dollars, capped at $14 per $100 everywhere payday lending is legal. The smallest amount on the form is $300. If $100 is all you need, read the bounce math and the cheaper routes below first; if a payday loan is still the right call, the lender’s written offer states the exact amount before you sign, and you can take less than you asked for.

What is a $100 payday loan?

A $100 payday loan is $100 advanced against your next paycheque by a lender licensed in your province, repaid in one pre-authorized debit of $114 on your payday, with the cost capped by federal law at $14 per $100.

Three rules define the product at any amount: $1,500 or less, 62 days or less, and a lender licensed under a provincial payday act, which exists in every province except Quebec. Outside those lines, every loan in Canada falls under the 35% APR criminal rate in section 347 of the Criminal Code; our guide to where payday loans are legal covers Quebec and the territories.

How much does a $100 payday loan cost on your pay schedule?

A $100 payday loan costs $14 in every province where payday lending is licensed, because the federal cap of $14 per $100 is a flat fee, not a daily rate. You repay $114 whether the loan runs 7 days or 62. What changes with your pay schedule is the APR the lender must print on the agreement, because the same $14 over fewer days is a higher annual rate.

The dollar cost never moves; only the APR does. The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada explains the $14 cap, in force since January 1, 2025; our payday loan cost guide runs it at every amount.

Who writes a $100 payday loan?

Storefront payday lenders and some online lenders write a $100 payday loan; many online lenders set their floor at $200 or $300, and the application form on this page starts at $300, the smallest amount the lenders in our network write online.

Where you askSmallest payday amount, in generalWhat to expect at $100
The form on this page$300Choose $300; the lender’s written offer states the amount, and you can take less or decline
Online payday lenders applied to directlyVaries; some start at $100 or $120, others at $200 or $300Check the lender’s own amount list first
Storefront payday lendersOften $100Same $14 fee; bring the pay stub and your banking details
Banks and credit unionsNo payday productAn arranged overdraft or a line of credit covers $100 for a fraction of $14
Earned-wage apps$20 to $100 of pay already earnedA membership or express fee instead of $14 per $100; repaid on payday

If $100 is all you need and the $300 floor on our form is more than you want to carry, the routes that cost less are usually the better answer. If none of them is open to you, apply for $300, read the offer, and sign only for the amount you can repay with room to spare.

The bounce math: what a $100 payday loan prevents, and what it costs

A $100 payday loan pays for itself only when the payment it prevents would cost more than $14 and cannot wait until payday. A bounced pre-authorized debit costs your bank’s NSF fee, capped at $10 at federally regulated banks since March 12, 2026, plus the biller’s own returned-payment charge.

The $100 payment due before paydayWhat it costs if it bounces or goes late$100 payday loan feeThe call
Rent or a rent instalment$10 bank NSF fee plus the landlord’s charge; in Ontario a landlord may add the bank’s charge and up to $20 in administration$14Loan usually wins
Phone or internet billLate fee, plus disconnection and reconnection charges if cut off$14Ask the provider to move the date first
Car insurance premiumA returned premium can lapse the policy and raise every later quote$14Loan wins if the insurer will not move the date
Utility billLate-payment interest, usually a few dollars on $100$14Waiting is cheaper
Gas to get to workA missed shift, which costs hours of pay$14Loan wins if no employer advance is available

The case people regret is the utility bill, which was always cheaper to pay late. A $100 payday loan moves a $114 hole two weeks down the road; it does not fill it.

What does the $114 debit leave from your paycheque?

The $114 debit takes 9.5% of a $1,200 net paycheque and 7.1% of a $1,600 one, so a $100 payday loan clears the share-of-pay limit in every province: $200 net where the limit is 50% of net pay, $334 where it is 30%. What stops a $100 application is the lender’s floor, a payday loan already open with another lender, or a returned payment in the last 90 days, all read through the 60-second read-only bank verification (IBV).

What does borrowing $100 every payday cost over a year?

Borrowing $100 every two weeks costs $364 in fees over a year, more than three and a half times the amount borrowed, and at the end of it you still owe $100. At this size the cycle is hard to see because each $14 looks small.

How do you get a $100 payday loan in 15 minutes?

You get a $100 payday loan by filling in one short form, confirming your pay deposits through a 60-second read-only bank check, reading the lender’s cost disclosure and e-signing, about 15 minutes of your time on a business day.

  1. Fill in the form (about 5 minutes): the smallest amount on the form is $300. Choose it, then add your province, employer, pay dates and your bank. The form on this page is the same one as our apply page.
  2. Get matched (a few minutes): we pass your file to lenders licensed in your province. No hard pull happens at this step.
  3. Verify with IBV (about 60 seconds): the lender sends a secure read-only link to your online banking that confirms your pay deposits. It reads; it cannot move money.
  4. Read the offer (2 to 3 minutes): the amount, the fee in dollars, the APR, the due date and the cancellation window are on the first page of the agreement by law. If you want less than the amount offered, say so before you sign; you can decline any offer.
  5. E-sign and get paid: the lender sends the money by Interac e-Transfer, often within 30 minutes, inside its funding hours; our guide to payday loans on weekends shows arrival hour by hour, and the e-Transfer payday loans page explains Auto Deposit.

Who qualifies for a $100 payday loan?

You qualify for a $100 payday loan if you are the age of majority in your province, have full-time or part-time employment income paid into a Canadian bank account, and have no other payday loan open.

  • Age: 18 in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan; 19 in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Income: steady full-time or part-time employment pay, deposited to your account; lenders look for the last two or three deposits on regular dates.
  • Bank account: an active Canadian chequing account with online banking, for the IBV check and the e-Transfer.

What does your province change for a $100 payday loan?

The $14 fee is the same everywhere, so what your province changes is the age you must be, how long you have to cancel for free, and what happens on a repeat loan.

Quebec has no payday product: $100 there is an overdraft, a card or a small loan priced under the 35% APR ceiling. Ontario’s rules are on the province’s payday loan rights page, British Columbia’s at Consumer Protection BC, and every regulator’s link is on our home page.

Can you get a $100 payday loan with bad credit?

Yes. A $100 payday loan is decided on your pay deposits, which the lender reads through IBV, so a score in the 500s does not stop the application on its own. Our page on payday loans for bad credit goes through each factor and what to do after a decline.

What happens if you cannot repay $114 on payday?

If the debit bounces, the lender may add a returned-payment fee, which the federal payday rules cap at $20, and your bank charges its own NSF fee, capped at $10 since March 12, 2026. On a $100 loan those two fees are more than double the original cost. The lender cannot charge a fresh $14 per $100 to push the date back; call the lender before the due date, not after, because licensed lenders can move it. If a debt has gone to collections, our payday loan debt help page lists the free options in every province.

What costs less than a $100 payday loan?

Almost every other way to get $100 costs less than $14 for two weeks, and at $100 the gap is at its widest.

Route to $100Cost over two weeksThe catch
Employer pay advance$0Only if your employer offers it
Arranged overdraft at 21% a yearabout $0.81Must already be set up; add any monthly overdraft fee
Credit card cash advance at 22.99% a yearabout $0.88 plus the advance feeNeeds cash room on the card; the advance fee is often a few dollars
Earned-wage appA membership or express feeOnly pay already earned; limits start around $20 to $100
Instalment loan at the 35% APR ceilingnot written at $100Minimums are usually $300 to $500
$100 payday loan at $14 per $100$14Same $14 for any term up to 62 days

Overdraft and card rates are common examples, not a promise; check your own account. If none of those routes is open, the payday loan is the one that pays today, at a cost known in advance.

A worked example: $100 on a Monday, paid every two weeks

On Monday, October 19, 2026 your phone provider’s pre-authorized payment of $100 is due Wednesday, you are paid every two weeks, next on Friday, October 30, and the provider will not move the date. You apply at 9 am for $300, finish the IBV check in a minute, and tell the lender you want the smallest amount it will write.

The offer comes back at $100: fee $14, APR about 465% on the 11-day term, debit of $114 on October 30. On a $1,200 net paycheque the loan is 8.3% of net pay, inside every province’s limit, and the debit leaves $1,086. The loan beat the bounce by the width of the provider’s fee.

Need $200, $300, $500 or more instead of $100?

The same lenders fund every amount up to the $1,500 legal maximum at the same $14 per $100: $200 costs $28, $300 costs $42, $500 costs $70. See the $300 payday loan page (also $200 and $400) and the $500 payday loan page ($600 to $1,500). For $1,000, the $1,000 payday loan page runs the net-pay test at that amount.

Which $100 offers should you walk away from?

Walk away from any $100 offer that asks for money before the loan arrives, quotes more than $14, promises approval before reading your bank, or asks you to pay by gift card, prepaid card or crypto.

  • A fee up front: “insurance”, “processing” or “release” charged before the money arrives is the most common small-loan scam.
  • More than $14 per $100: anything above $14 on $100 is outside the law in every licensing province.
  • A yes before any check: every real lender verifies income; an ad that approves everyone is selling something else.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a $100 payday loan cost?

$14, the federal cap of $14 per $100, so you repay $114. The fee is the same for any term up to 62 days; on a 14-day term it works out to about 365% APR.

Is $100 the smallest payday loan in Canada?

There is no legal minimum, but $100 is the smallest amount most lenders write, and many online lenders set their floor at $200 or $300. The form on this page starts at $300.

Can I get exactly $100 through this form?

The form’s smallest amount is $300. After the bank check the lender writes an offer stating the amount, and you can ask for less than you applied for or decline the offer. Nothing is final until you sign.

Can I get a $100 payday loan with bad credit?

Yes, in most cases. The lender decides on your pay deposits through a read-only IBV check, so regular pay, no returned payments in the last 90 days and no other open payday loan matter more than your score.

Do I need a job to get a $100 payday loan?

You need full-time or part-time employment income deposited to a Canadian bank account. Pay that arrives on regular dates is what gets a payday loan of any size approved.

Is a $100 payday loan worth it to stop a bounced payment?

Only when the bounce would cost more than $14 and the bill cannot wait until payday. A bounced pre-authorized debit costs a $10 bank NSF fee plus the biller’s own charge, so rent, insurance and phone bills usually justify the $14; a utility bill with a few dollars of late interest usually does not.

Can I cancel a $100 payday loan after signing?

Yes. Every licensing province gives you a free cancellation window: two business days in Ontario, BC and Alberta, 48 hours in Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia online. Return the $100 and the $14 fee is refunded.

Can I get a $100 payday loan in Quebec or the territories?

No. Quebec has no payday product, so $100 there comes from an overdraft, a card or a small loan priced under the 35% APR ceiling. Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut have no payday act, so the same ceiling applies.

Get Payday Loans Canada is a loan-matching service, not a lender or broker, and does not make credit decisions or fund loans. Payday loans are short-term, high-cost credit regulated by each province; the maximum cost of borrowing is $14 per $100 borrowed (federal cap, since January 1, 2025). Example: a $100 payday loan at $14 per $100 for 14 days costs $14 (APR about 365%). The application form on this page starts at $300; the lender’s written offer states the amount you are approved for. Approval depends on the lender’s criteria, including verified employment income. Borrow only what you can repay on your next payday and consider lower-cost alternatives first.
